Plaid Tidings
by: Stuart Ross
The Plaids were a 1960s-style young male vocal quartet, tragically killed in a collision with a busload of Catholic girls as they were driving to their first big concert. In the original production, “Forever Plaid”, the boys find themselves on stage – returned from heaven to give one big concert. In “Plaid Tidings” the Plaids once again return to earth (with some urging from a voice-over by Rosemary Clooney) to bring some good cheer to Earth during the Christmas season. Familiar antics of the four guys, such as the Ed Sullivan and the Carmen Miranda sketches take on a holiday theme. The production includes a number of familiar songs sung by the quartet in their brief return to earth.
